Monday, September 9, 2002 - Redding, California
I slept okay but was awake several times, perhaps because the street outside was so busy. Sunlight plus voices and I got up, peeked out the window at the bike, then looked at the clock and it was exactly 7:00 a.m.
I turned on CNN to catch up while dressing and packing. Dave called at 7:33 a.m., I finished packing and loaded the bike, started the engine and turned in my room key, then rode down to their motel.
They were pretty much ready to go and we left the parking lot at 8:00 a.m. We stopped for fuel at a Union 76 down the street, then hit the freeway, heading south on I-5, past Anderson, Cottonwood and Red Bluff.
We passed a sign ("olivecity.com") outside Corning, then Orland, and we stopped for a short rest at Hy 162, near Willows. Another hour and a half later we stopped at a Shell Station in Woodland for fuel, with a Jack-In-The-Box next door for an early lunch.
About 12:30 p.m. we parted ways at French Camp; they went home and I continued south on Interstate 5, then over I-205 and I-580 and made a stop at Livermore Harley-Davidson shortly after 1:00 p.m.
See any previous trip report for the route home. The last hour or so is usually quite boring but as I've written before, I always try to stay extra alert when close to home.
I pulled into my driveway at 2:30 p.m. Barney was happy to see me and all was well with the world.
This was my first Slimefest, my first trip to Oregon by motorcycle and the first time I've been to Washington State. I guess I need to get out more!
